Michael Gove (born 26 August 1967) was the Conservative Party MP for Surrey Heath from 5 May 2005 to 30 May 2024, succeeding Nick Hawkins.
Biography[]
Graeme Andrew Logan was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1967, and he was adopted into the Gove family as "Michael Andrew Gove". He began his career as an author and journalist for The Times, and he was first elected to Parliament in 2005 as the Conservative Party MP for Surrey Heath. He served as Secretary of State for Education from 2010 to 2014, Secretary of State for Justice from 2015 to 2016, Secretary of State for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs from 2017 to 2019, and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster from 2019. He played a major role in the "Leave" campaign during the Brexit campaign of 2016, and he took part in Boris Johnson's 2016 leadership campaign; he was sacked by the leadership election's victor, Theresa May, as a result. However, he became Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster under Prime Minister Johnson, overseeing preparations for a no-deal Brexit.
