Michael Garnett (1 June 1926-9 June 1944) was a US Army private who served in the US 101st Airborne Division during World War II.

Biography[]

Michael Garnett was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1926, and he worked on the Ohio River docks before enlisting in the US Army during World War II. He quickly befriended Larry Allen, who shared his love for Superman comics and his proclivity to make sly or sarcastic remarks at every situation. The two of them became close friends, rarely being seen apart. Allen and Garnett both served in the US 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the US 101st Airborne Division, and they even managed to drop at the same location during the Mission Albany landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944. On 9 June 1944, during the Battle of Saint-Come-du-Mont, Allen and Garnett were sent to serve under their rival, Batman fan Kevin Leggett, and Leggett and Garnett's rivalry would turn into a physical and verbal fight during this battle. This alerted three German soldiers, and Garnett was shot by a sniper and killed.
