Michael Desola (20 August 1923 – 10 June 1944) was a US Army private who served in the US 101st Airborne Division during World War II.
Biography[]
Michael Desola was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1923, one of twelve children in a family of Italian immigrants. He was passionate about baseball and Italian food, and he wanted to take over his father's Italian restaurant one day. During World War II, he joined the US Army, serving in the US 101st Airborne Division. Desola took part in the Mission Albany landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944, and he also fought in the Battle of Carentan. On 10 June 1944, after assisting in the capture of Purple Heart Lane, he was killed in a Stuka dive-bomber attack on a bridge leading to Carentan.
