Michael Clifton Burgess (23 December 1950-) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-TX 26) from 3 January 2003 to 3 January 2025, succeeding Dick Armey and preceding Brandon Gill.
Biography[]
Michael Clifton Burgess was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and he worked as a doctor. He was a registered Democrat until before 2002, when he entered in the Republican primary election to replace House Majority Leader Dick Armey. He was supported by medical PACs and the National Beer Wholesalers Association, and he defeated Armey's son in the primary and won the general election with 75% of the vote. He became a member of the right-wing populist Tea Party caucus, and he supported the idea of impeaching Barack Obama.
