
Michael Adeane (30 September 1910 – 30 April 1984) was Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II from 1953 to 1972, succeeding Alan Lascelles and preceding Martin Charteris.
Biography[]
Michael Adeane was born in London, England in 1910, and he was educated at Eton College and Magdalene College, Cambridge. After graduating in 1934, he travelled to Canada and served as aide-de-camp to two Governors-General. Adeane later returned to England to serve as King George VI's Assistant Private Secretary from 1945, following active five years on military duty during World War II. In 1953, following the retirement of Alan Lascelles, Adeane became Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II and a member of the Privy Council. He retired in 1972, and he died in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1984.
