Meyer Basin

Meyer Basin (8 June 1890-20 September 1918) was a Bolshevik revolutionary and one of the "26 Baku Commissars" who ruled over the Baku Commune during the Russian Civil War.

Biography[]

Meyer Basin was born on 8 June 1890 in Cherykaw, Belarus, Russian Empire to a Belarusian Jewish family. He joined the Socialist Revolutionary Party and became a Bolshevik political commissar, becoming one of the heads of the Baku Commune in 1917-1918 during the Russian Civil War. In September 1918, he was captured by the British Army while attempting to flee Baku as White Army forces overran the city, and he was executed by firing squad with the other "26 Baku Commissars".
