Mexican Federal Police

The Mexican Federal Police, nicknamed the Federales, was a Mexican police force under the authority of the Secretariat of the Interior which existed from 1928 to 2019. The Federal Police's predecessor was formed on 2 June 1928, but it was President Ernesto Zedillo who created the "Federal Preventative Police" in 1999 to prevent and combat and to enforce the law that drugs will not run around on Mexico's streets. On 29 May 2009, President Felipe Calderon gave the Federales their current name. The Federales are heavily-armed, wearing dark blue, black, or gray combat fatigues in action. In 2014, the National Gendarmerie Division was created within the Federales, assisting them in their fight against crime during the Mexican Drug War. On 1 October 2019, the Federal Police was formally liquidated by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and absorbed into the National Guard of Mexico.
