Mehrzad Karaka

Mehrzad Karaka (2 May 1931-13 April 1983) was a Major of the Pasdaran of Iran during the Iran-Iraq War.

Biography[]

Mehrzad Karaka was born on 2 May 1931 in Shahin Shahr, Kingdom of Iran to a Shia Muslim family. Karaka became a professor of Islamic history at the University of Isfahan, and he was involved with Islamist groups in the country. He was arrested by SAVAK in 1969 for his controversial views, and he was held in prison and tortured for ten years. Karaka was released following the Iranian Revolution in 1979, and he decided to volunteer in the Pasdaran to defend Iran from Ba'athist Iraq's surprise attack. Karaka was killed in action against the Iraqi Popular Army in 1983.
