Mehmet Oz (11 June 1960-) was a member of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition under Donald Trump.

Biography

Mehmet Oz was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Turkish immigrant parents, and he was raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He became a cardiac surgeon in 1982 and he also became a television personality with Second Opinion with Dr. Oz in 2003, as a guest with over 60 appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show from 2004 onwards, and as host of The Dr. Oz Show from 2009 onwards. He promoted pseudoscience, with only 46% of his claims coming from reputable research. In 2018, he was appointed to Donald Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. On 30 November 2021, he announced that he was running for the US Senate in Pennsylvania as a Republican, saying, "During the (COVID-19) pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That's why I am running for the US Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal."
