Mehmed II Giray (1532-1584) was Khan of Crimea from 1577 to 1584, succeeding Devlet I Giray and preceding Saadet II Giray. A son of Devlet I Giray, he succeeded his father as khan in 1577. He was known as "the Fat" for his weight, and he preferred to travel in a wagon drawn by six or eight horses rather than riding on horseback. He raided Volhynia and Persia during his reign, but, in 1582, he refused to join another Ottoman invasion of Persia, resulting in turkish troops invading the Crimea. Mehmed was strangled in his wagon by Ottoman agents.
