Mediterranean

The Mediterranean Sea is a sea connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar (only 8.7 miles wide). Its name means "inland" in Latin, as it is practically its own independent body of water due to being nearly completely separated from the ocean. The lands along the Mediterranean and the derivative Balearic Sea, Aegean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea, Alboran Sea, Libyan Sea, and Levantine Sea are closely-related in climate, with chaparral being the main climate; mountains and beaches are other common features, with seafood and plants dominating the sources of food for the countries along the sea.
