Medicare is a single-payer national insurance program that was created administered by the United States government as a result of the Social Security Amendments of 1965. Medicare is funded by payroll tax, healthcare premiums, and surtaxes from its users, and it provides healthcare to old people over the age of 65 and to young people with disabilities.
