McGurk's Bar bombing

The McGurk's Bar bombing occurred on 4 December 1971 when the Ulster Volunteer Force unionist paramilitary detonated a bomb at a pub in Belfast, Northern Ireland that was frequented by Catholic Irish people. 15 people were killed and 17 wounded in the attack, the deadliest attack in Belfast during The Troubles. It was later discovered that the Royal Ulster Constabulary had been attempting to blame the IRA for the attack and had been hiding evidence pointing to UVF involvement, and it would not be until 1977 that a UVF member was arrested for the attack; he served only fifteen years in prison.
