
Maximilian Sforza (25 January 1493-4 June 1530) was the Duke of Milan from 1512 to 1515, succeeding Louis XII of France and preceding Francis I of France.
Biography[]
Maximilian Sforza was the son of Duke Ludovico Sforza, and he was installed as the Duke of Milan in 1512 after Swiss mercenaries invaded Italy and ousted the French from the city. Maximilian led the Swiss at the Battle of Novara in 1513, and he was imprisoned by the French after their victory at the Battle of Marignano in 1515. He waived his rights to the duchy in exchange for 30,000 ducats and lived in France until his death in 1530.
