
Matthew Locke (1730-7 September 1801) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-NC 2) from 1793 to 1799, succeeding Nathaniel Macon and preceding Archibald Henderson.
Biography[]
Matthew Locke was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1730, the uncle of US Senator Francis Locke Jr.. His family settled in Anson County, North Carolina, and he served as a colonel in the Rowan County militia during the American Revolutionary War. He served in the House of Commons from 1777 to 1781 and from 1783 to 1792 and in the State Senate from 1781 to 1782, and he later served in the US House of Representatives from 1793 to 1799. He died in 1801.
