Mate Boban

Mate Boban (12 February 1940-7 July 1997) was President of Herzeg-Bosnia from 18 November 1991 to 8 February 1994, preceding Kresimir Zubak.

Biography[]

Mate Boban was born in Sovici, Croatia, Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1940, and he joined the League of Communists of Yugoslavia in 1958. He worked as director of the Napredak trading company and became a Croat nationalist during the 1980s, and he joined the HDZ BiH party in 1990. From 1991 to 1994, he served as President of Herzeg-Bosnia during the Bosnian War, and he claimed that the Muslims raped the mothers and sisters of the Croats for hundreds of years, while the Serbs and Croats were brothers. He resigned in 1994, and he died of a heart attack in 1997.
