
Matasuntha (518-560) was a daughter of Eutharic and Amalasuntha. She was a sister of Athalaric, King of the Ostrogoths, and the wife of King Vitiges.
Biography[]
Matasuntha was the daughter of Eutharic and Amalasuntha, and she married King Vitiges, to whom she bore no child; during the Gothic War, they were captured by the Byzantines and taken to Constantinople, where Vitiges died. Matasuntha married a patrician and the cousin of Justinian I, and she became a patrician ordinary and a mother. After her husband's death, she determined to remain a widow, and she died in 560.
