Massoud Rajavi (18 August 1948-) was a leader of the People's Mujahedin of Iran from January 1979, serving alongside his wife Maryam Rajavi.
Biography[]
Massoud Rajavi was born in Tabas, Iran, and he joined the People's Mujahedin of Iran in 1968 at the age of 20. He actively opposed Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and participated in the Iranian Revolution, and he nearly avoided the death penalty after being imprisoned by the SAVAK, being released from prison during the revolution. He became the leader of the MeK, and he was disqualified as a presidential candidate due to his socialist views. In 1986, he moved to Iraq and began a terrorist campaign against Iran, and he was welcomed by Saddam Hussein. He disappeared after the 2003 United States invasion, and he was believed to be dead.
