The Massachusetts Bay Colony was a colony of England located in New England, with Boston and Salem being its two centers. It existed from 1628 to 1691, when it was incorporated into the crown colony of Massachusetts, which included both the present-day states of Massachusetts and Maine. The colony was founded by John Winthrop after he landed at Boston, and the colony would later be united with Plymouth Colony and other regions in 1691 to become the "Province of Massachusetts".
