Masaie Natsuka (1562-8 November 1600) was a general of the Oda clan who was later a general of the Toyotomi and Western Army.

Biography[]

Born to a family that served the Niwa and Oda clans, Masaie served under Hideyoshi Hashiba and was given control of Omi Province. Due to his arithmetical faculty, he was made one of the Go-Bugyo regents of Japan's Toyotomi Shogunate

After the death of Hideyoshi he became a general of Mitsunari Ishida's Western Army in the Sekigahara Campaign of 1600. He fought under Hiroie Kikkawa and Hidemoto Mori, but was prevented from fighting, as they told him to stay on the defensive. Commanding one of the fire pillars that lit the way for the Western Army on the foggy battlefield of Sekigahara, he was cut down by Ieyasu Tokugawa himself, causing some of the fog to dissipate.
