Biography[]
Mary Miller was born in Naperville, Illinois in 1959, and she became a grain and cattle farmer in Oakland with her husband Chris Miller before entering politics as a Republican. She was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2020 to succeed the retiring incumbent John Shimkus. On 8 January 2021, just five days into her term, she controversially posted online that, "Hitler was right on one thing. He said, 'Whoever has the youth has the future." This statement drew widespread criticism, and, on 10 May 2021, ABC News contributor Rahm Emanuel invoked the incident, criticizing the Republican Party for not booting scandal-ridden members like Miller, whilst also shunning party members who disputed Donald Trump's narrative of "the Big Lie" with regard to the 2020 presidential election. She was often described as being linked to the far-right.
