Surratt Boarding House

The Mary E. Surratt Boarding House is a historic building located at 604 H Street in Washington DC. The building was erected in 1843 in the Federal style, and John Surratt purchased the house on 6 December 1853 and transformed it into a boarding house. Mary Surratt inherited the boarding house in 1862, and she made it her primary address after renting out her tavern in Surrattsville to John M. Lloyd. On 17 April 1865, Union Army soldiers arrested Surratt and Lewis Powell for conspiring to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln three days earlier; both would be executed months later. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 and came to house the Wok and Roll Restaurant Karaoke eatery due to its location in Washington's Chinatown neighborhood.
