
Mary Ball Washington (30 November 1708-26 August 1789) was the second wife of Augustine Washington and the mother of George Washington.
Biography[]
Mary Ball Washington was born in Lancaster County, Virginia in 1708, the daughter of an English immigrant civil servant. She married Augustine Washington in 1731 at the age of 22, and they had six children: George, Betty, Samuel, John Augustine, Charles, and Mildred. Mary managed her 276-acre Ferry Farm plantation throughout her life, never remarrying; she lived to see her son become commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. She attended her son's inauguration in New York City before dying of breast cancer in Fredericksburg in 1789.
