Marty Byrde was an American financial advisor and money launderer.
Biography[]
Marty Byrde was born in Chicago, Illinois, and he married political operative Wendy Davis in 1995 and fathered two children, Charlotte (born 2002) and Jonah. Byrde partnered with his college friend Bruce Liddell to create a financial advising firm in Chicago, and, starting in 2007, they established a partnership with Camino Del Rio of the Navarro Cartel, laundering 10% of the Mexican drug cartel's money. Secretly, Byrde and Liddell stole $8 million from the cartel over three years by rigging gas gauges, and, in 2017, Del Rio held a meeting with Byrde, Liddell, Liddell's fiance Liz, and the trucking company owners Clayton Hanson Sr. and Clayton Hanson Jr. and confronted them about their theft of the cartel's money. After Byrde accused Del Rio of bluffing with his intimidation, Del Rio proceeded to shoot Liz through a door as she used the bathroom, and he also had his men execute the Hansons and personally shot Liddell after he admitted to stealing the money. Del Rio intended on killing Byrde and Wendy as well, but Byrde - who had just been told about the Lake of the Ozarks (the "Redneck Riviera") by Liddell that same day - told Del Rio that the cartel could set up operations in that tourist hub, far from the FBI, CIA, and ATF, and he could make up the $8 million and wash $500 million over five years once he and his family moved there. Del Rio reluctantly agreed, on the condition that Byrde make up the $8 million in 48 hours, pay him that money in cash, and then move to the Ozarks in another 48 hours. Once there, Byrde gradually built up a small money laundering empire, partnering with Blue Cat lodge owner Rachel Garrison and acquiring the ownership of the Lickety Splitz strip club from Bobby Dean after enlisting the help of the burglar Ruth Langmore in stealing its deed and blackmailing Dean about his own money laundering. Byrde's takeover of the strip club and his intent to move Pastor Mason Young's church from boats on the Lake to a land church came into conflict with the heroin trafficker Jacob Snell.
