Martin Waltham Bates (24 February 1786-1 January 1869) was a member of the US Senator from Delaware (D) from 14 January 1857 to 3 March 1859, succeeding Joseph P. Comegys and preceding Willard Saulsbury Sr..

Biography[]

Martin Waltham was born in Salisbury, Connecticut in 1786, and he became a lawyer in Dover, Delaware in 1822, practicing there for the remainder of his life. He served in the state legislature before serving in the US Senate from 1857 to 1859 as a Democrat, and he died in 1869.
