
Martin "Mike" Sennet Conner (31 August 1891-16 September 1950) was the Democratic Governor of Mississippi from 19 January 1932 to 21 January 1936, succeeding Theodore G. Bilbo and preceding Hugh L. White.
Biography[]
Martin Sennet Conner was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1891, and he was raised in Seminary, where he became a lawyer. He served in the State House from 1916 to 1924 and as Governor from 1932 to 1936, and he allied with Louisiana populist leader Huey Long to support road improvements in their states. He maintained a state treasury surplus during the Great Depression, and he left office in 1936. Conner died in 1950.
