Martin Perfecto de Cos (1800-1854) was a general of Mexico during the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American War.
Biography[]
Martin Perfecto de Cos was born in 1800, and he became the brother-in-law of Mexican president and general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. In 1835, his brother-in-law gave him command of the Mexican Army forces sent to crush the Republic of Texas' uprising, but he was forced to surrender the city of San Antonio to the Texian Army. His soldiers would retake the city following the Battle of the Alamo, and they led the assault on the mission's walls. On 24 April 1836, Cos was captured by the Texians after the Battle of San Jacinto, and he was released when the revolution came to an end. Cos would be sent to command a military garrison at Tuxpan in Veracruz, where he died in 1854.
