Martin Nelson Johnson (3 March 1850-21 October 1909) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-ND) from 4 March 1891 to 3 March 1899 (succeeding Henry C. Hansbrough and preceding Burleigh F. Spalding) and a US Senator from North Dakota from 4 March to 21 October 1909 (succeeding Henry C. Hansbrough and preceding Fountain L. Thompson).

Biography[]

Martin Nelson Johnson was born in Racine County, Wisconsin in 1850, and he was raised in Decorah, Iowa and became a lawyer in 1876. He served in the State House in 1877 and in the State Senate from 1878 to 1882, and he also served as a Republican presidential elector in 1876. He moved to the Dakota Territory in 1882 and served as the prosecuting attorney of Nelson County from 1886 to 1890, in the US House of Representatives from 1891 to 1899, and in the US Senate in 1909, when he died just a few months after taking office.
