Martin Lichtenberg (1907 - 1942) was a German champion racing driver in the early 1930s. While competing in the international circuit, Lichtenberg was paid by Don Marcu Morello to race for him at the 1932 Chicago Grand Prix. Morello had him in a safe location until the race, preventing Don Ennio Salieri from harming Lichtenberg. Instead, Salieri sent Tommy Angelo to have Lichtenberg's engine sabotaged.
When the race began, Lichtenberg's engine combusted into flames, immediately putting him out of the race and allowing Angelo to win. He would later be conscripted into the Wehrmacht during World War II, dying during the Battle of Stalingrad.
