Martin Furnival Jones (7 May 1912 – 1 March 1997) was Director General of MI5 from 1965 to 1972, succeeding Roger Hollis and preceding Michael Hanley.
Biography[]
Martin Furnival Jones was born in High Barnet, Hertfordshire, England on 7 May 1912, and he became a solicitor in 1937 and joined the leading London law firm Slaughter and May. During World War II, he joined the Intelligence Corps, and he later transferred to MI5. He served as Director of MI5 from 1965 to 1972, during which time he collaborated with the United States in exposing Anthony Blunt's role as the recruiter for the Cambridge communist spy ring during the 1930s. He died in 1997.
