Mark Tice was the Republican Chambers County Precinct 2 Commissioner from 2018. On 25 March 2019, he drew controversy when he commented on Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's bilingual address about a chemical fire by saying, "She is a joke. English, this is not Mexico." He later apologized for his xenophobic comment.
