
Marion E. Hay (9 December 1865-21 November 1933) was the Republican Governor of Washington from 28 March 1909 to 15 January 1913, succeeding Samuel G. Cosgrove and preceding Ernest Lister.
Biography[]
Marion E. Hay was born in Adams County, Wisconsin in 1865, and he moved to Davenport, Washington in 1888 and became a storeowner and wheat rancher. He moved to Wilbur in 1889 and served as its mayor from 1898 to 1902, before moving to Spokane in 1908 and serving as Lieutenant Governor in 1909 and as Governor from 1909 to 1913. Hay focused on anti-corruption efforts and enacted workman's compensation and women's suffrage laws. He was defeated for re-election in 1912 and died in 1933.
