Mario Stone

Mario Stone (born 1957) was an NYPD officer and the leader of the Cash Money Brothers investigation in 1990.

Biography[]

Mario Stone was born in New York City, New York in 1957 to an African American family, and he became a New York Police Department officer.

In 1990, he was assigned to lead the investigation into the Cash Money Brothers gang, assigning officers Scotty Appleton and Nick Peretti to the case. Stone took a risk, knowing that his career would be on the line if they failed, and he was angered that their informant, Pookie Robinson was killed; Stone had been against Robinson's involvement in the first place, as he was a former crackhead.

Stone later gave permission for Appleton and Peretti to infiltrate the family while pretending to be drug dealers, and the police would succeed in destroying the gang and arresting Brown.

Brown was sentenced to a year in prison, but a concerned citizen shot Brown as he left the courthouse.
