
Mariano Enrique Calvo (18 July 1782-29 July 1842) was President of Bolivia from 9 July to 22 September 1841, succeeding Sebastian Agreda and preceding Jose Ballivian.
Biography[]
Mariano Enrique Calvo was born in Chuquisaca, Bolivia in 1782, and he initially sided with the royalists during the Bolivian War of Independence before joining the patirots and supporting Andres de Santa Cruz's authoritarian regime. He served as Foreign and Interior Minister from 1829 to 1832 and from 1833 to 1835, as Vice President from 1835 to 1839, and as President in 1841, and, while he was the first civilian president of the country, he was unable to prevent a Peruvian invasion of the country due to the military's divisions between pro-Velasco and pro-Santa Cruz camps. He left office just two months into his tenure and died a year later.
