Maria Scaletta (6 October 1892 - 30 May 1945) was a housewife and mother of New York mobster Vito Scaletta.
In May 1945, Scaletta died of an unknown illness while her son Vito was in prison.
Biography[]
Maria Scaletta was born in Sicily on October 6th 1892 to an Italian family. She was married to Antonio Scaletta in 1920 and the couple had two children, Francesca in 1921, and Vito in 1925. The Scaletta family emigrated to the United States in 1932 in an attempt to escape from their impoverished lifestyle.
