Margaret of Scotland, Queen of Norway (28 February 1261 – 9 April 1283) was Queen consort of Norway from 1281 to 1283 as the wife of Eric II of Norway.
Biography[]
Margaret of Scotland was born at Windsor Castle in Windsor, Berkshire, England on 28 February 1261, the firstborn daughter of King Alexander III of Scotland and Margaret of England. In 1281, she was betrothed to the 13-year-old King Eric II of Norway, easing tensions between Scotland and Norway; however, Margaret was privately against the match. She taught Eric French and English, table manners, and fashion, but her mother-in-law Ingeborg of Denmark undermined her influence at court. She died shortly after giving birth to Margaret, Maid of Norway at Tonsberg in 1283.
