Marcus H. Holcomb (28 November 1844-5 March 1932) was the Republican Governor of Connecticut from 6 January 1915 to 5 January 1921, succeeding Simeon Eben Baldwin and preceding Everett J. Lake.

Biography[]

Marcus H. Holcomb was born in New Hartford, Connecticut in 1844, and he became a lawyer in 1871 and directed a bank in Southington. Holcomb went on to serve as a probate judge from 1873 to 1910, as treasurer of Hartford from 1893 to 1908, as Attorney General of Connecticut from 1907 to 1910, and as Governor from 1915 to 1921. He refused to implement women's suffrage because of his personal opposition. Holcomb died in 1932.
