Marco Amato (1510-10 February 1527) was a Venetian Pirate from the city of Trieste.

Biography[]

Amato was born in Trieste in the Republic of Venice, and became a seafarer at the age of seventeen. Hiring a crew and collecting cannon ammunition, he set out to sell some purchased olive oil barrels elsewhere to gain money. When he left port, he encountered William Clive in the Laurium Sea, and attempted to board his small ship. Amato's crew of 50 outnumbered Clive's 12, but Amato sailed close to board it, and his ship was found at a weak spot and sunk. The crew abandoned ship, and Amato died.
