Marcia Fudge (born 29 October 1952) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-OH 11) from 18 November 2008 to 10 March 2021 (succeeding Stephanie Tubbs Jones and preceding Shontel Brown) and the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 10 March 2021 (succeeding Ben Carson).
Biography[]
Marcia Fudge was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1952, and she worked as a law clerk before working at the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office, as an auditor for the estate tax department, and as a visiting judge. She then served as Mayor of Warrensville Heights from 2000 to 2008, when she was elected to the US House of Representatives. In 2020, President Joe Biden nominated her to head his Department of Housing and Urban Development, and she was confirmed on 10 March 2021, making her the first Black Secretary of Housing and Urban Development since Patricia Roberts Harris in 1979.
