The March on Rome occurred from 22 to 29 October 1922 when 30,000 supporters of the National Fascist Party (the Blackshirts), led by Benito Mussolini and his quadrumvirs Emilio De Bono, Michele Bianchi, Cesare Maria de Vecchi, and Italo Balbo, occupied the Po plain and all strategic points across Italy while marching on the capital of Rome. The march led to Prime Minister Luigi Facta stepping down with his democratic government, and King Vittorio Emmanuele III of Italy let Mussolini form his own government, the "Grand Council of Fascism".
