Marcel, Vicomte de Bontecou (1672-1758) was a Marshal of France and diplomat. He was also the father of Philbert Bontecou.
Early Life[]
Marcel Bontecou was born into an aristocratic family that had historically governed the small town of Bontecou in the North of France. Although the governing rights had been removed from the family centuries ago, the family had been rewarded for their service to France with the keeping of Castle Bontecou. Marcel Bontecou inherited the ornamental title Vicomte from his father. At the age of 16, Bontecou started studying politics and diplomacy at the College of Orléans. After that he continued with Military Studies at the same college.
1709 Republic[]
The 1709 Republic denounced Marcel Bontecou from his title Vicomte and he and his family were expelled from Castle Bontecou. Marcel Bontecou joined the Royal Forces and acted as the second most important leader, after Charles Lagrange. He took part at the famous storming of Paris in late 1713. After the restoration of the Monarchy, his title Vicomte and the ancestral Castle Bontecou were returned to him and he was named Marshal of France.
