
Manuel Trucco (18 March 1875-25 October 1954) was President of Chile from 20 August to 15 November 1931, interrupting Juan Esteban Montero's terms.
Biography[]
Manuel Trucco Franzani was born in Cauquenes, Chile on 18 March 1875, and he became a civil engineer in 1899. He later became an academic and served as Director General of Railroads from 1918 to 1924, and he joined the Radical Party of Chile in 1926 and became its president. In 1931, he served as caretaker President while Juan Esteban Montero, the acting President, was forced to step down in order to run for the presidency in his own right. Trucco stepped down when Montero was elected President as the Radical candidate. He served as ambassador to the United States from 1932 to 1938, and he served as Governor of the Central Bank of Chile from 1948 to 1951. He died in 1954.
