Biography[]

Manuel Maria Borrero was born in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1883, and he practiced law before joining the Ecuadorian Radical Liberal Party. He served as a jurist and as ambassador to Chile before serving as interim President in 1938 after the overthrow of Federico Paez by Alberto Enriquez Gallo. He failed to form a government of national conciliation, and violence broke out between supporters of Borrero and his rival Francisco Arizaga Luque. He resigned after 114 days in power and died in 1975.
