Manny Diaz (5 November 1954-) was Mayor of Miami from 17 November 2001 to 11 November 2009, succeeding Joe Carollo and preceding Tomas Pedro Regalado.
Biography[]
Manny Diaz was born in Havana, Cuba in 1954, and his mother brought him to the United States in 1961. He became an attorney in Miami and was elected Mayor in 2001 as a Democratic Party politician. Diaz oversaw the restoration of financial stability to the city, created healthy financial reserves, continued tax cuts, lowered millage rates, and gave the city an A+ bond rating on Wall Street. In 2008, he endorsed Barack Obama for president. He left office in 2009 due to term limits.
