The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that connects lower Manhattan with Brooklyn, spanning 3,224 feet. The bridge, built over the East River of New York City, was built from 1901 to 1912, opening to the public on 31 December 1909. The bridge was a model for all future suspension bridges, and it was also a toll-free bridge; this made it a very busy bridge, leading to it having 7 lanes.
