Mané galinha en 1979
Mané Galinha (1952-1981), known as Chicken Manny or Knockout Ned, was a Brazilian gang member who was the right-hand man of Carrot during the 1981 Cidade de Deus war which took place in the Cidade de Deus favela of Rio de Janeiro. Having earned a marksman certification during his time in the Brazilian Army, Ned was valued for his accuracy, being as valuable as ten men.
Before and during 1980, Ned worked as a security guard, though he threw away this life after he was forced to strip naked at Benny's ill-fated farewell party, and a few days later, forced to watch Ze Pequeno, Galinhao et Timbó ,rape his girlfriend. Though he took refuge with his family, Ze murdered Ned's brother and uncle, prompting Ned to join Carrot's gang. Ned established a moral code of not killing innocents, though was forced to violate this when he killed a security guard at a bank.
Ned was feared by Ze's gang for his marksmanship, which left many of Ze's men dead in the gang attacks across the favela. In a climactic battle between Carrot and Ze's gangs, Ned attempted to help an injured child that was with Ze's gang. Unbeknownst to Ned was that the child was Otto, the son of the security guard he killed, and Otto shot and killed Ned before dying himself.
