Flag of Manchukuo

The Empire of Manchukuo was a client state of Japan which existed from 1932 to 1945, being a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. It was established in occupied Manchuria with the deposed Chinese emperor Puyi as its head of state, but he was nothing more than a puppet of Japan, with Japanese advisors making decisions at virtually every level of government. Manchukuo lasted for thirteen years, ending when the Soviet Union's Red Army invaded Manchuria at the end of World War II in August 1945, destroying the exhausted Imperial Japanese Army troops and their unreliable Manchukuo Imperial Army auxiliaries stationed in Manchukuo. Despite its name, the ethnic Manchus were a minority, and instead the country was a combination of five recognized main races: Manchus, Han Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, and Mongols, along with a significant Russian minority which fled from the Bolsheviks after the Russian Civil War.
