
Mamerto Urriolagoitia (5 December 1895-4 June 1974) was President of Bolivia from 24 October 1949 to 16 May 1951, succeeding Enrique Hertzog and preceding Hugo Ballivian.
Biography[]
Mamerto Urriolagoitia was born in Sucre, Bolivia in 1895, and he served as a diplomat in London before becoming a Republican Socialist Unity Party senator. He served as Enrique Hertzog's Vice President from 1947 to 1949 before assuming office on Hertzog's resignation, and he violently suppressed the country's trade unions. He was the last constitutional president of the oligarchic social order that preceded the Bolivian National Revolution of 1952, and he died in 1974.
