Mahmoud Tawfik (1961-) was Interior Minister of Egypt from 14 June 2018, succeeding Magdy Abdel Ghaffar.
Biography[]
Mahmoud Tawfik was born in Giza, Egypt in 1961. He graduated from the police academy in 1982 and worked for the Interior Ministry and for the state security services before serving as Egyp's intelligence chief from 2017 to 2018 and as Interior Minister from 2018. Tawfik coordinated counter-terrorism activities against the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist terror groups.
