
Mahmoud Sami Elbaroudi (11 June 1839-11 December 1904) was Prime Minister of Egypt from 4 Februray to 26 May 1882, succeeding Mohamed Sherif Pasha an dpreceding Raghib Pasha. The son of an Arab general and his Greek wife, he served in the Egyptian Army before becoming a poet, diplomat, provincial governor, and general, serving in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and supporting the cause of reform under Khedive Tewfik Pasha. He later served as Prime Minister amid the Urabi revolt, surviving an assassination attempt by Tewfiq. He was exiled to Ceylon for 17 years before returning to Egypt in 1899 and dying in Cairo in 1904.
